The Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee are both at sea level. They both get water from the same source yet the Sea of Galilee is full of life. In fact, there are species of fish in the Sea of Galilee that are not found in any other body of water. The Dead Sea, however, contains no life, and it is toxic and bitter.
What makes the difference?
The Dead Sea does not have an outlet. It does not share the water it receives. But the Galilee has an outlet and shares the water that it receives.
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:37-39(NIV)
God expects His church to reach out to the community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We can become so involved in gaining church membership that we fail to reach out to the people in the community with the love of Christ.
We have become so tolerate of world’s beliefs that we accept their beliefs as true but fail to tell them what the God teaches us in His word. Consequently, the church of today seems to be toxic and bitter to those who do not know the truth.
The Bible says that when we drink of the water that Jesus gives us, we will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14(NIV)
Are you a “spring of living water” or are you a camouflaged Christian? The Church needs to be built on the living water, not on tolerance of popular beliefs.
