Bare Footed Christians

Many times as children

We want to go and play

Sometimes in the backyard,

Or in a mow of hay.

Often in our excitement

We go without our shoes.

The ground may be soft mushy

And between our toes does ooze.

The ground may contain hidden objects

Like screws or nails or glass.

But from our eyes are hidden

Or covered up with grass.

Mother often tells us

As we run out to play,

“Better put your shoes on

Or you’ll get hurt today.”

We do not heed the warning

As out the door we go.

What we are going to step on

We really do not know.

Then sure enough it happens

Our foot sustains a cut.

 We really didn’t see it,

That glass thrown in a rut.

We don’t want Mom to know it

So we stay outside and play.

Our foot begins to swell,

But what did mother say?

Our foot is filled with infection

And is turning very red.

Because of our condition

We need to stay in bed.

I can’t go out and play now

As I lie here in my bed.

I am feeling rather guilty

Wish I’d done what mother said.

I am wondering dear Christian,

As you travel down life’s road,

“Are you going about it your way

Not doing what you’re told?”

Are you walking daily

According to God’s plan?

Do you have your feet shod,

Or do you follow ways of man?

Are you listening to the Father

And in His word well rooted?

Or are you doing it your way

By going around bare footed?

Ephesians 6:13-15(NIV)  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
