Is Jesus Your Savior or Your Lord?

A savior is someone who saves us or delivers us from evil and destruction.

In the Old Testament, the people were looking for a savior. God was their savior. He was their refuge during times of trouble. The Children of Israel would make sacrifices for their sin. In the book of Leviticus you will find the instructions for these offering.

A spotless lamb was frequently brought to be offered as a sin offering. The price for sin was the shedding of blood.  When the lamb was slayed, it was paying the price for the sin committed by the person bringing the offering.

When Jesus left his heavenly home to come to earth in human form, He was the lamb that would be slayed for our sins. He was the spotless lamb whose blood would be sacrificed for the sins of the world. He blood paid the price for our sin. This offering was for everyone who believed that Jesus was who he claimed to be.

Because of God’s grace, everyone can have salvation. They can be delivered from their sin.  This deliverance is a gift that people can receive or reject. When people accepts this gift of salvation, they are considered Christians. They have accepted Jesus as their Savior.  If they reject this gift, they will remain in their sinful condition. They will continue to be headed toward destruction regardless of what Satan tells them.

Near the end of Jesus ministry on earth, he told his disciples that he was going to send an advocate. This advocate would work on our behalf to keep us free from sin. He was like having Jesus with us full time. This Advocate is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the part of the Trinity that communicates with our inner spirit. This communication takes place in the spirit realm. In other words, the Holy Spirit hears our utterings and interprets them into the “spirit language” which he then presents to God on our behalf.

When we accept this gift, we receive forgiveness of sins and an advocate with the Heavenly Father. This means we have accepted Jesus as our Savior.

The communication we have with our Heavenly Father is a two-way communication. The Holy Spirit not only takes our requests to God, but he also brings God’s word to us in a way that we can understand what God the Father wants us to do. He has given us the Bible. The Holy Spirit is the one who helps us understand what God is telling us in the Bible. Since the Holy Spirit is communicating on a spiritual level, He takes the words of the Bible and interprets them to the spirit language that enables our spirit to understand the message from God and to do what he is telling us to do.

Since the Holy Spirit is interpreting the Bible for us, it does not matter what translation or language we have because the Holy Spirit is telling us what God the Father wants us to hear.

What we do with the information the Holy Spirit gives us determines who has Lordship of our lives. In other words, our response to the Holy Spirit determines our Lordship. If we respond favorable to the Holy Spirit, we are allowing God to have lordship over our lives. On the other hand if we continue to do what our inner spirit wants us to do, we ourselves have the lordship of our life. Frequently these people tend to allow Satan with his lies to control their lives because they lack God’s protection. Their lordship belongs to Satan.

In Ephesians 5, Paul tells us:

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.(Ephesians 5:12-20(NIV)

In our human spirit, we see things that we think will bring us happiness and peace. Frequently they do bring happiness and peace for a very short time. Satan, who also works as a spirit, is trying to get our spirit to see only the pleasure, and not the consequence of our sin. He leads us further and further from God by giving us very short times of happiness that frequently led us into more loneliness and dissatisfaction. He leads us to a place where we fail to see any hope for the future.

However, If we listen to the Holy Spirit, we will experience a lasting joy, a lasting peace, and a constant companion. It is as if Jesus were walking right beside us as a friend, keeping us from sin.  It is like He is holding us accountable for our actions.

In Galatians 4, Paul tells us we must crucify our flesh with its passions and desires.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.  Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5:22-26(NIV)

If Jesus is our Lord, we have crucified your fleshly desire. But until we have crucified our flesh with its passion and desires, we are unable to have Jesus as our Lord. Christians are to keep in step with the Holy Spirit. By keeping in step with the Holy Spirit, we have accepts Jesus as our Lord. This is what Jesus wanted all of his followers to do. This is what Jesus did while on the earth. Jesus did the Father’s will and not his own will.

What is your answer?  “Is Jesus your Savior, or is he your Lord?”

Having Jesus as your Lord does not mean you are sinless. You will still be prone to sin. However, having Jesus as your Lord will cause you to walk away from sin rather than toward it. Jesus as Lord will give you joy and peace.

How is your heart like a smart phone?

People have been using cell phones for nearly two decades. Every year they develop cell phones that do more things than the last one. One of the latest cell phones developed is called a smart phone. A smart phone is usually used for communication. We talk to friends; we make purchases from someone or some place; we read the latest news about our favorite people, organization, town, or state. We can even look at social media to communicate with our ‘online’ friends.

When we purchase a smart phone, we need to ‘activate’ the phone. In other words, we need to prepare our phone to communicate with the ‘cell tower’ that will relay the communication between our smart phone and the people with which we want to communicate.

On the smart phone there are several ‘folders’ or icons that we can tap. When we tap one of them, it will open several ‘apps’ files. For instance, we may see an icon that says something like ‘play store’. In play store you will find several games you can download, or you will see special kinds of applications that you may want to use. You may also find ‘widgets’ in the apps files that you can use to give the time, temperature, weather alerts, calculators, etc. These little helpful things are supposed to make you more productive. When you click on these icons, they will install on your phone.  Some of them will require activation and some will not require activation.

When God made man, he gave man a heart. The basic function of the heart is to communicate with the various organs of the body. This communication is done by circulating blood through the body.

The heart is also designed to communicate with people and with God. Our heart, like our cell phone is activated for communication.  The cell phone communicates through cell towers and the heart communicates through the spirit.

Because Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, they were given a communication package called ‘sin.’ God determined that every person born would have that communication package.

18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:18-19(NIV)

Because of Jesus death and resurrection, God placed a new folder on our heart. The name of the folder is ‘Hope and Restoration’ and is identified by the cross icon. It is installed on your heart, but it needs to be activated.  It will require your approval to be activated. God will not force His communication on your heart against your will.

In the ‘Hope and Restoration’ folder are several apps. They include: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23NIV). These apps were intended to replace those default apps installed on our basic heart; the apps installed in our heart when Adam and Eve sinned. Those apps include: murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander, etc. Matthew 15:19(NIV)

If you want the full benefit of the ‘Hope and Restoration’ apps, you must install all of the apps available in that folder. However, it is possible to pick and choose which ones you want. But remember that failure to install one of these apps will allow some of the default apps to stay active. When installing the ‘Hope and Restoration’ apps, it is recommended that you use your Wi-Fi (Wholesome information For intimacy) connection.  When you activate the ‘Hope and Restoration’ folder, you will also receive a free upgrade in service. This upgrade includes the Holy Spirit plus unlimited text and messaging.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Romans 8:26-27(NIV)

In addition to receiving the Holy Spirit, you will also receive a virus protection plan. This plan is called your conscience. When false information comes your way, the Holy Spirit can block it before it ruins your heart. The Holy Spirit will help keep your heart and mind pure and free of corruption.

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:7-9(NIV)

“Can you hear me now?”  Was a phrase that one cell phone service provider used to show people that where ever they went, they would still have cell phone service. With the Holy Spirit providing your heart communication service, you will never be out of communication with God.  In Matthew 28, Jesus promised his followers that he would never leave them; He would be with them for eternity.

The ‘Hope and Restoration’ folder can be activated from anyplace. In the Old Testament people had to make a sacrifice on an altar, but the cross became the last altar that was needed because Jesus was our ultimate sacrifice. He died for the sins of the whole world: past, present, and future. And because of this sacrifice, we do not need to go to an altar, a church, or a pastor. The Holy Spirit can activate the ‘Hope and Restoration” folder right where you are. It is activated by believing that Jesus died for you sin. There is no specific prayer that needs to be prayed. However, the relief of the burden of sin being lifted from your back may cause you to thank God for sending His son to pay the price of your sin; or you may want to thank God for adopting you into His family as one of His children; or you may want to share the good news with some friends; or you may just want to thank God for loving you. The requirement is to believe in your heart that Jesus died for you. Because He died for you, your relationship with God can be restored to what it was before Adam and Eve sinned. The default apps can be deleted!

As you continue to study God’s Word as written in the Bible, the Holy Spirit will help you to understand what God is telling you. He will also show you how to use the ‘Hope and Restoration’ apps in the folder to make you a better person. Someday Jesus will come back to take you to your heavenly home to live with Him. Then you will be able to talk face to face with your Redeemer.

This offer is a limited time offer.  It must be accepted before your life on earth ends. God is calling, “can you hear him now?

What Does Eternity Hold for You?

One of my favorite Easter songs is “They Could Not”. This song was written and sung by Sandi Patty in 1982. This song summarizes Jesus ministry on this earth. People just did not understand who Jesus was or what he was up to.

Since they could not understand Jesus, they decided to kill him. They tortured him hoping they could find out who he was. Even though God allowed Jesus to suffer, He did not allow the people to interfere with God’s plan for salvation. They could not keep Jesus in the grave.

In the last stanza of “They Could Not”, Sandy Patty says:

They could not, They could not….Praise God, they could not ….And when at last they took from Him what willingly He gave…. Could they keep Him in the grave, could they keep Him in the grave, ….Could they keep Him in the grave, They could not!

Jesus was raised to life! They could not stop him!

God allowed Jesus to be tortured by the people, just as God allowed Job to be physically tortured by Satan. As I thought about this truth, I was reminded of Romans 12:19(NIV) where it records the words of the Lord: Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

God gets the final word. He is the one who is ultimately in charge. He is the one who will take revenge.  In Revelation 20 the writer is telling about the judgment of Satan after he had been in prison for a thousand years.

When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Revelation 20:7-10(NIV)

Talk about revenge! Jesus was tormented for a short period but Satan and his followers will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

When we come to the end of our physical life, our spirit continues to exist. We have two options. We will live (have fellowship with the Lord) forever, or we will die (have no fellowship with the Lord and be tormented) forever! Just as Christians live forever with God, the false teachers and followers of Satan will be tormented forever.

The people could not prevent Jesus from being raised from the dead, and they will not be able to stop the tormenting!

We have a choice. We can accept Jesus for who he is and follow His leading, or we can continue being deceived by Satan and follow his leading. These are your options. What option are you going to choose? The choice is yours. However, the choice you make must be made before you die. Once your body dies, it is too late to change your mind.

The default choice is eternal torment.

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24(NIV)

The only way we can have eternal life is by accepting the redemption that Jesus has to offer. By faith in Jesus Christ you can accept redemption that leads to eternal life.

What will your choice be?
